Picking the Right Lift

Working vs Platform Height

Working height is platform height plus about 6 ft of reach. A "19 ft" scissor puts your hands around 25 ft up. Buy the spec that matches the task, not the model name.

Scissor or Boom?

Scissors go straight up with a big, stable deck for people and material. Booms trade deck space for outreach and up-and-over access. If you need to reach past something, it is a boom job.

Electric or Diesel?

Electric scissors are quiet, exhaust-free, and non-marking: the indoor choice. Diesel 4WD machines own the outdoors, on turf, gravel, and half-frozen spring ground.

Common Questions

Can I run an electric scissor lift on a finished floor?

Yes, that is what they are for. Our electric Skyjacks have non-marking tires and no exhaust. On suspended or finished floors, check floor load limits against the machine's weight, and we can give you the numbers for the unit you rent.

Do I need training to operate a lift?

Current ANSI standards require operators of scissor and boom lifts to have documented training plus familiarization on the specific model. When you pick up or take delivery, we walk you through the machine's controls and quirks. If your crew needs formal operator training, ask and we will point you in the right direction.

Which lift for hanging a garage ceiling or shop lights?

For most shops and warehouses, the 19 ft electric scissors are the sweet spot: they fit through a standard door, run clean indoors, and put your hands around 25 ft up. If the job needs more platform height than that, step up to the SJIII 3220 or the SJ3226E.
